La Pulledraia del
Podere Montegrappa is a Farm Holidays in
Tuscany, located in
one of the farms born from the subdivision
of the Lorenas' posessions after World War
One.
Even after the unity of Italy, the land of
Alberese remained in the Lorenas family's
hands, that had bought it in 1824 from the
princes Corsini. Right after the outbreak of
World War One the Lorenas, become enemies of
Italy for their allegiance to the Austrian
kingdom, transfered the |

land to duke Lante della Rovere, it is
unknown if there was a real deed or just a
fake one, however the Italian Governament,
with a decree signed by the prefect of
Grosseto dated March, the 17th 1923,
expropriated the land as a possession of a
defeated country's subject.
On January, the 1st 1924,
Alberese was assigned to the administration of the Opera
Nazionale Combattenti (Fighters National Deed) aka ONC,
that completed the reclamation and built about 100 farms
giving them the names of the places where World War One
had been fought (Bainsizza, Montegrappa, Pasubio,
Montesanto, Gorizia, Monte Asolone).
In 1930 the ONC called as sharecroppers for these farms
some Venetian families right from the lands of the World
War front. It is still possible to hear the Venetian
dialect spoken with a Tuscan accent among the
inhabitants of Alberese whose surnames are: Marangon,
Bettiol, Bredariol, Troncon, Perin, etc...

The farm with
its 24 hectares has been the first in
Alberese to operate following the rules of
organic farming and we keep on following
these same rules with perseverance and
determination because we are the first
consumers of our own products. We have come
to this result after eight and a half years
of reconversion from traditional farming
(the one based on the use of synthetic
fertilizers and chemical antiparasitics) to
organic farming (from 1983 to 1991 thanks to
our old

administrator, mr. Giorgio Verutti) putting great
efforts in the rotation of crops.
We would like to stress that with organic farming you
gain loads of benefits:

you produce food that does not contain
antiparasitics

you do not pollute the surrounding air and water
tables from where aqueducts draw our water

you do not pollute the areas surrounding factories
that produce plant protection products and chemical
fertilizers
-
you produce vegetables with better nutritional
value and better taste
